A chit fund is a type of savings and investment scheme that is popular in India and other countries. It involves a group of individuals coming together to form a chit fund and contribute a fixed amount of money regularly.
Each chit scheme has 20/25 members, who will contribute a fixed amount every month for a period of 20/25 months. Every month, collected amount is auctioned and The member who bids the lowest amount is declared the winner. The money left is then equally distributed among the members. Thus you end up paying less than your normal monthly instalments!
Of course it is! The Chit Fund Act of 1982 governs the handling of chits. Your money is completely secure because it is governed by the Registrar of Chits. Each chit scheme’s total worth must be deposited with the Registrar of Chits.
